Features

Database and the Internet by Maurice Frank
While the World Wide Web may be best known as the Internet's primary (but not the only) medium for publishing information for external consumers, it has also become an increasingly common vehicle for distributing data within corporations. These so-called "intranets" use Web servers, Web browsers, and HTML documents as a means to publish corporate information. This article explores various techniques and products that let Web browsers (the client-side software that accesses and displays Web pages such as Netscape, Mosaic, and others) exchange data with DBMSs.

Hard-Hat C/S Construction: In-Depth Case Studies
In this special section of DBMS, you'll find feature articles on how corporations are using new testing tools, development environments, data warehouses, object-oriented programming tools, and PC-based tools to solve difficult business problems. These feature case studies explain: how to build a mission-critical property management application using distributed object technology; how and why two ISVs chose object-oriented programming to build their financial software packages; how Turner Broadcasting, American Stores, and an independent consultant benefited from using automated testing tools; and much more. Plus, our DBMS columnists provide additional case studies throughout this issue.
