Netting Objects

NetObjects Inc. announced NetObjects Fusion, a Web site application development tool that combines automatic site building, design, and data publishing features. NetObjects Fusion includes SiteArchitect, a visual site structure editor that lets users conceive and edit the hierarchical map of the entire site, and PageDraw, a Web page layout editor that gives users drag-and-drop, pixel-level control over virtually any content, including text, graphics, tables, forms, and rich media such as Java, Active/X, and Shockwave. The SiteStyles Manager provides a centralized way to apply overall graphical elements to a site. Data publishing capabilities let users visually integrate existing content from ODBC data sources (such as spreadsheets and databases) into Web sites. This product also includes a gallery of more than 50 professionally designed SiteStyles and prebuilt AutoSites. To support changes as sites grow, the product supports automated site-wide navigation, link management, and one-button publishing of multiple site versions.

Fusion generates the HTML code necessary to publish on the Web; navigation elements are automatically created and updated based upon the site structure. NetObjects Fusion has built-in FTP capabilities so that when a user finishes designing a Web site, it is published to the Web and Fusion will send all of the HTML pages and site assets via FTP to the Web server specified by the user. Fusion runs without proprietary extensions and is compatible with all standard browsers and servers. Bases Loaded

Quadbase Systems Inc. is shipping Quadbase-SQL 4.0, the latest version of its client/server SQL DBMS. Version 4.0 complies with the entry-level ANSI SQL 92 standard and supports ODBC as a native API. Storage management features provide options to create file-based schemas, which can be set up and maintained without a DBA, or device-based schemas, which allow full control over physical storage management. Quadbase-SQL uses a thread-pooling technique to maintain a pool of worker threads, alleviating high levels of contention for shared data structures on CPUs.

Some features that are included with version 4.0 include clustered indexes, online backup, multi-table outer join, shadow page logging with logical redo-undo logs for transaction processing and crash recovery, and record locking. Quadbase-SQL runs on Microsoft Windows, Windows NT, Windows 95, and Netware platforms. It supports any ODBC-compliant front-ends, such as Microsoft Visual Basic and C++, Delphi, ProtoView, PowerBuilder, and Borland C++. Sagent's Solution

Relative newcomer Sagent Technology Inc., founded by former ReportSmith execs Ken Gardner and John Zicker, announced its first product, the Sagent Data Mart Solution, a set of integrated tools for building, managing, and accessing data marts. Based on a multi-tier, multi-threaded architecture, the Sagent Data Mart Solution moves critical information closer to end users and lets them access, share, and collaborate on that information.

The Sagent Data Mart Solution consists of the Sagent Data Mart Server, a Windows NT-based application server that features a multi-threaded engine for processing information requests and a repository for storing components and administration statistics; Sagent Design Studio, which lets developers populate data marts quickly and develop metadata for end users; Sagent Information Studio, a set of graphical, point-and-click tools to help users access and share information in Sagent-controlled data marts; Sagent Admin, a set of tools that lets data mart administrators control a distributed network of data marts from one central location; and Sagent WebLink, a facility for linking Sagent systems with popular Internet and Intranet Web browsers.

The Sagent Data Mart Server supports access to Oracle, Red Brick, Sybase, and Microsoft SQL Server and offers ODBC connections to IBM DB2, Informix, and other databases. The Sagent Data Mart Solution is scheduled to ship in September 1996 and costs $50,000 for 20 users.
